American University Model United Nations is a very unique and interesting organization for many reasons. First, our foremost goal is to achieve better awareness and understanding of the activities that the United Nations. To accomplish this goal, we simulates the activities and dealings of the United Nations through collegiate conferences that are held at other universities around the United States. Recently, we have attended conferences at the University of Virginia, University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University, as well as the National Model United Nations Conference in New York City.
Throughout our simulations, we strive to not just understand the United Nations, but to understand and simulate the Member-State that we represent. We achieve this through extensive research, writing position papers, and meeting with the embassy officials of the particular Member-State that we represent.
In the past few years, we have extended our reach and awareness to the general community of American University. Through speakers, human rights movie-screenings, and dispersal of reading material, we have attempted to give everyone in the community the chance to understand the global community.
